T. John Longkumer takes charge as new DGP of Nagaland

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer T. John Longkumer (1991 batch, Chhattisgarh cadre) took charge on June 27 (Wednesday) as the new Director General of Police of Nagaland. It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India had approved the ‘inter-cadre’ deputation of T. John Longkumer from Chhattisgarh to Nagaland for a period of three years on administrative grounds.

Longkumer succeeded Rupin Sharma who has been placed under “compulsory wait” by the State Government.

 

On his arrival at Police Headquarters, the new DGP was accorded guard of honour. After assuming charge, Longkumer held a meeting with senior police officers.

 

According to a communique issued by the PRO of Police Headquarter, Longkumer stated that he will uphold the office of the DGP with dignity and pride and will strive to work together as a team. He also remarked that he was happy to be home.

 

Social media was abuzz with the arrival of the new DGP who had landed from Kolkata on Tuesday.

 

Earlier T John Longkumer paid a courtesy visit to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh on Tuesday at his official residence. The Chief Minister congratulated him on his new posting and wished him a bright future.

According to media reports, Longkumer during his courtesy meeting expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, senior police officers and colleagues for their co-operation during his long tenure in Chhattisgarh.

 

It may be recalled that T J Longkumer, as DIG Bastar region, was in direct command of operations when the 9th India Reserve Battalion-IRB (Daring Ninth) from Nagaland was deployed in Chhattisgarh from 2005 to 2007 to tackle leftwing extremism.
