Advisor Dr Kire observes need for change in government schools

Kohima, November 10 (MExN): The Government Middle School Lower Chandmari Kohima on Wednesday held its annual function-cum-cultural day at the school auditorium.

Gracing the occasion as special guest, Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr Neikiesalie Kire stressed on the need for all government teachers to enroll their children in government schools so as to improve the quality of education.

There should be a policy that government teachers should admit their children in government schools so that teachers will take education more seriously and bring change in the government schools, he said.

Citing that in Mizoram the toppers are from government schools, he said it is the other way round in Nagaland.

According to a press release, Dr Kire assured to support the School Management Committee (SMC) of GMS Lower Chandmari in their request for upgrading the school to High School level.

Meanwhile, appreciating the talents of the students, Dr Kire suggested that music should be taught in government schools as an extracurricular activity. 

The advisor also advised imparting cleanliness activities in schools so as to imbibe work culture among the youngsters.

School Management Committee (SMC) secretary Sedengulie delivered a short speech while SMC member secretary John Kath highlighted the activities of the school since its establishment in 2010. The school currently has more than 60 students with 16 teachers but lacks Grade-IV staff, he said.  He informed that the school has been achieving cent percent pass percentage in Class 8 for the last five years. 

Head Teacher Y Nchumbemo Odyuo delivered the welcome address while the students of different classes enthralled the gathering with special numbers including welcome song by Konyak students, poem recitation by Meilem, Lotha folk song, Khiamniungan song and Nepali dance.
