Maligaon, February 13 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted the first trial run of a freight train with Multi Unit (MU) locomotives on the Shokhuvi-Molvom railway section on February 11.

Part of the Dhansiri-Zubza New Line Project, the trial marks a key milestone in enhancing railway connectivity in Nagaland, stated the NFR in a press release.

The good train reached Molvom around 6 PM, signifying progress toward the commissioning of the 15.419 km railway stretch, which is expected to be completed in the coming months.

According to the NFR, the successful trial run is crucial for the Molvom region, as its railway station is set to become Nagaland’s third major railway hub after Dimapur and Shokhuvi.

Once fully operational, the new rail link will enhance passenger and freight movement, bridging logistical gaps and fostering economic growth.

The development is expected to benefit local traders, entrepreneurs, and businesses in Molvom by offering a reliable and cost-effective transportation option. Improved connectivity is also anticipated to attract investments and drive socio-economic progress in Nagaland.

The NFR reaffirmed its commitment to expanding railway infrastructure in the Northeast, citing the successful freight train trial as a testament to its ongoing efforts.
