Reiterates ‘One Government, One Taxation’ stance

Chümoukedima, February 20 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) today expressed concern over what it termed as the “rising number of non-indigenous people and illegal immigrants” and called for strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the entire district of Chümoukedima.

Even though Chümoukedima came under the purview of ILP with effect from August 1, 2022, as per an official notification, the mechanism has not been implemented in letter and spirit, it maintained.

Accordingly, a press release issued by the CTYO President Hovise Naleo and General Secretary Avi Makritsu urged the district administration to ensure the enrollment of ILP is “thorough and precise to the extent possible.”

Meanwhile, the organisation also noted that multiple elements have started to emerge again to collect “tax,” causing hardships to the business community and the general public of Chümoukedima Town.

“The CTYO will not tolerate antisocial elements, and strict action will be taken against those indulging in unlawful demands,” it asserted.

To this end, it further reiterated that it would remain steadfast on the “One Government, One Taxation” declaration.

“The citizens of Chümoukedima unanimously resolved to pay tax to only one entity per the February 13, 2014 resolution,” it pointed out.

The CTYO also reiterated that it will not tolerate any activities that disrupt the peace of Chümoukedima town, such as drinking in public places, substance abuse, rowdy, intoxicated behavior, loud music during the wee hours, etc. “Anyone who does so will be dealt with strictly,” it cautioned.

The organisation also advised the general public to remain alert, as many “thievery cases have been reported, and they remain at large.” It also urged business establishments to check their inventory for expired goods and refrain from selling such
“Strict action will be taken against defaulters,” it added.

The CTYO also asked the concerned department to check vehicles, especially motorbikes with retrofitted exhausts, and book the offenders as per the law.

These loud bikes are hugely annoying and stressful to people and students during exams, and moreover, this public nuisance has been on the rise notably on Sundays on the NH29 highway, even though such modification is prohibited under the law, it added.
