Dimapur Airport resumes scheduled flights after rain disruption

Scheduled flight operations resumed at Dimapur Airport on Sunday, a day after services were disrupted amid heavy rainfall and waterlogging in parts of Dimapur.

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport recorded three scheduled arrivals and three departures on August 9, with 549 arriving passengers and 553 departing passengers, taking the total passenger movement to 1,102.

The resumption of scheduled services comes after flight operations were cancelled disrupted on August 8 amid the heavy rainfall and waterlogging.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre, Kohima, has forecast heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm in 24 hours from August 9 over Dimapur, along with Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Zunheboto, Tuensang and Kohima.

Very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm is very likely over Wokha and Mokokchung.

The forecast warned of poor visibility, landslides and landslips, waterlogging in low-lying areas and roads, traffic disruption, damage to kutcha roads and the possibility of flash floods. Heavy rainfall could also affect crops at the maturity stage and vulnerable structures.

In a separate statement, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur has advised residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement through waterlogged areas.

Residents have also been cautioned to stay away from electrical poles, wires, transformers, inverters and other electrical installations in or near flooded areas to avoid the risk of electrocution.
