Education is the important instrument for inclusive growth: Union Minister RR Singh

The Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland hosted an interaction programme of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) and the State Competent Authorities and representatives of Minority Educational Institutions from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima on June 3.

NCMEI Act 2004 has been enacted to safeguard the educational right of the minorities enshrined in Article 30(1) of the constitution. The Commission is a quasi-judicial body and conferred with the powers of a Civil Court for the purpose of discharging its function and has both original and appellate jurisdiction. Commission has both original and appellate authority.

In his address at the interaction programme, Union Minister of State for Education, Dr RR Singh said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many schemes like Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY) has been launched for entire North East Region.

He said that that education is the important instrument for inclusive growth and education serves as an engine for development of everyone.

Singh mentioned that Article 30 Clause 1 gives religion and linguistic minority a fundamental right to establish and set up their own Institution.

He encouraged taking this opportunity and setting up Institutions to ensure quality and easy accessibility to education. Till date, six communities in India are recognised as Minorities in India, Singh said.

He appreciated the Missionary Schools for imparting knowledge to the remote areas.

The Union Minster mentioned that National Education Policy 2020 was brought about with an agenda for sustainable development and making educational institution more holistic to bring out capability of students. He encouraged the participants to be prepared for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and learning regional language. Further, Singh urged the participants to come up with creative ideas to improve education system.
 
GoI working on bringing 100% enrolment by 2030
NCMEI Chairman, Justice Narendra Kumar Jain talked on right to free education. He encouraged working on bringing Below Poverty Line (BPL) children to school. He also challenged the participants to have knowledge about the Education Policy and Act on it. Government of India is working on bringing 100% enrolment by 2030, he said.

Jain was of the opinion that a country is respected if its economy is strong and rooted strongly. As per statistics, 50% of Indian population are religious minorities, he said.

Commissioner & Secretary for Higher & Technical Education, Anenla T Sato thanked the Union Minister for choosing Nagaland to conduct the programme and for bringing many changes by the minister and appreciated his works. She thanked the Jain Community for running SD Jain educational institutions in Nagaland and imparting quality education.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Kevileno Angami, commissioner & secretary for school education & SCERT, Nagaland. The programme witnessed the presence of about 200 delegates.
