DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): In continuation to the press release issued by the Chief Engineer (T&G), Department of Power, the Executive Engineer (Elect), Dimapur Electrical Division on Saturday issued a ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ for adherence by electricity consumers during what it termed as “crucial period where the department is unable to meet the power demand.”

Do’s
The Dimapur electrical division has advocated for judicious use of power and to switch off all electrical appliances when not in use. To switch on electrical appliances in a phased manner, preferably staggered and spread over half an hour in order to avoid inrush of current whenever power supply has been restored.

Clear the trees and vegetation along the distribution and transmission line within your vicinity. At the same time, to consult the concerned officers for clearance before taking up any construction works along the lines to avoid accidents.

Village council and all responsible consumers have been requested to help the department by discouraging the defaulting consumers using power by means of hooking, tampering and by-passing the energy meters.

Don’ts’
Do not switch on high wattage electrical appliance simultaneously. It should be noted that the electrical appliances driven by induction motor such as water pumps, deep freezers, refrigerators and compressors of air conditioners draws current 2.5 to 3 times the normal current during start up.

Hence, right after the restoration of power supply if all the appliances are connected simultaneously the load on the transformer becomes overburdened resulting in the distribution transformers being damaged.

Do not use inefficient electrical appliances such as incandescent lamp, un rated/non star rated appliances and induction heating coil but to always insist on energy efficient 5 star rated appliances and low wattage but efficient LED lights.
