Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 30(NPN) : As part of the ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence, a four-day-long Kohima Street Carnival began at Old NST area here on Wednesday.

Speaking as guest of honour, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs adviser, Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire said Kohima Smart City Development Ltd (KSCDL) was organising the carnival as part of the celebration of India’s glorious history, people and diverse culture.

He said similar events were being organised in other cities of the country, observing that though Kohima was comparatively a small city, it had the potential to perform as good, if not better, than other cities.

He thanked various stakeholders who had come forward to take part in the carnival.

Kire wished the carnival a grand success and hoped that everyone taking part either in it would have a good time.

Earlier, KSCDL chief executive officer (CEO) Kezhazelhou Theünuo, in his welcome address, mentioned that a variety of interesting events were being planned for the four-day carnival. He invited citizens of the city to come, witness and be part of the event.

KSCDL joint CEO Avelu Ruho, who led the inaugural programme, said the theme of the event was “reimagining public places”.

She said the carnival location was specifically chosen so as to encourage general masses to take part in it. As part of the carnival, Brilliante organised the 3rd edition of piano festival with various performances by its students.

In a brief speech, Brilliante founder and director Khyochano Kikon thanked KSCDL for giving them the opportunity to be a part of the carnival.

It may be mentioned here that with two successful editions already to its credit, Brilliante went online in its third edition with state-of-the-art video and performances footages from different parts of the world as well as Nagaland.

Brilliante aims to make Nagaland “piano capital” of India and piano communities around the world would be able to have access to one another.

By going international, Brilliante will host renowned pianists from around the world, including Marouan Benabdallah from Germany, Luke Jones from Wales, Monika Herzig from US and Padyumna Manot from India.

Apart from participants from six countries, other pianists from India and Nagaland will also be taking part in the festival.

Itinerary of the festival includes live street piano performances, introductory video showcasing the host city, masterclasses/workshops via online and zoom meets and virtual grand concerts.

The festival is powered by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) and supported by Nagaland Piano Teachers’ Association (NPTA). It will culminate on October 2.
