Mock drill and awareness on fire safety, rescue technique held

Officials from Fire Station, Kohima (South) carried out a mock drill and awareness on fire safety and rescue technique at Government Primary School, Lerie for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) on May 31. 

Keyirangsobe Zeliang, Sub-inspector, Kohima, South gave basic knowledge on fire to the students and said accidents can be avoided when addressed on the right time and in the right way. The official said it is important for everyone to keep in mind basic techniques of handling such situation to avert any accident which can harm and cause loss to human and material. 

He asked the children not to play with fire. In case of fire, he asked children to inculcate the habit of informing. Anyone can call the fire station by memorizing the toll free number using any phone, he said. 

He said mock drills are carried out mostly with students of schools and colleges. 

The official along with five other firemen carried out Mock demonstration on how to safely put out fire with the different types of fire extinguishers. They also showed the students on how to put out fire from domestic gas cylinders. 

Rescue techniques for evacuating injured persons were also displayed to the children during the drill.
