Two-day expo at Fazl Ali College concludes

The two-day Mega Job Expo 2024 at Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung concluded on Wednesday with thousands of job seekers attending the first ever job expo in the district. Apart from Mokokchung, 35 job seekers from Shamator and 45 from Mon district also attended the expo.

It was fruitful, opined Temjen Bursanen Jamir, Centre Leader, Arms Incorporation, mentioning that the centre was able to publicise and reach out to local people, parents and students. 

“We had more than seventy people visiting our room and showing interest in what we were offering. We are hopeful that many people will join our programme judging by the interests that were shown in these two days,” he said.

For Nungshisenla, a graduate job seeker, she had the opportunity to connect with various companies and explore different avenues at the energetic and inspiring expo.

“While the event had many positive aspects, I did see one area for improvement; it would have been beneficial to have more representation from various job sectors in and around Nagaland,” she added.

Both job seekers and recruiters concurred that the issue of relocation was the primary reason why many offers were turned down. 

Many aspirants were not ready to relocate, noted Anil Makwana, a recruiter representing Talent Acquaintance, a Dimapur-based firm. 

Though he is willing to relocate, Imlisanen, a graduate job seeker said that he would need to consult with his family before making a decision. 

However, he intends to participate in the trainings and programmes featured during the job expo. 

Representing the event partner, FAC Vice-Principal, Vinod Kumar said that the event is the need of the hour because of the unemployment problem in the state. 

“This mega job expo has not only provided job but has given avenues for skill training which is very much essential,” he maintained. 

“The response was very good and we hope to organise such events in the coming years also which will help the people of the region it will be good for the development of Nagaland and to boost the economy if people can get jobs,” he added.

Sentirong  Jamir, another job seeker also commented that the job expo was a great initiative, especially for the numerous unemployed youth and held that it is skills, not just qualifications alone, which would help one survive in the long run. 

“I believe that organising this Mega Job Expo in the coming years and assisting job searchers to prepare for it will be really beneficial,” he added.

Meanwhile, Secretary Planning Committee Er Imlisunep Ao, Secretary Planning Committee commented that the job expo was a success with participants from other districts also showing great interest.

While stating that the effort of the Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board and District Skill Committee did not go in vain, he said that more of such events should be organised periodically so as to help curb the problem of unemployment.

“There are recruiters ready with hundreds of jobs, eager to recruit our people but the problem us is that we lack the required skills which makes us unemployable,” he asserted.

“We need to focus on skilling our children and our students because it is an important component toward personal and professional success and it contributes to holistic growth and employability,” he concluded, he added. 

The expo was organised by Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board and District Skill committee in partnership with Business Association of Nagas, Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland and FAC. 

The Logistic Partners were 12 Assam Rifles, while the media partners were Mokokchung Channel, Tir Yimyim and The Morung Express.
