Nagaland Police bust fake mark sheets racket, 3 held

DIMAPUR, MARCH 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Police have arrested three persons while busting a fake mark sheet racket.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the CID branch of the Nagaland Police PHQ led by the Deputy SP (Crime) unearthed a well organised racket wherein fake mark sheets and other educational certificates of HSLC & HSSLC of students from Nagaland were being manufactured and used for commission of crime by a gang of IT professionals based in Guwahati, Assam.

A press release from the PRO, PHQ Kohima identified the three arrested persons as Mohbubur Rashid Choudhury aka Manoj Das, Rahul Sen aka Rajat Yadav, and Jinna Razzakul Alom aka Mitul Alom from various locations in Assam after a month of reconnaissance and surveillance.

The prime accused, Mohbubur Rashid Choudhury aka Manoj Das, was arrested from Beltola, Guwahati while the other two were arrested from Kokhrajhar, Assam.

The press release informed that the operation was conducted under the supervision of DIG (CID) and SP (Crime) Nagaland. The SIT along with Cyber cell PHQ and CFL Chumukedima conducted simultaneous raids in Beltola,

Guwahati and Kokrajhar Assam, and recovered various incriminating documents and evidence such as fake mark sheets, seals of high ranking NBSE officials, cash, laptops and various electronic equipments used in the commission of crime.

Police informed that the gang operates under the name ‘Career Today Nagaland’ and ‘Edumart Naga.’ They would impersonate themselves as director and executives of these fake career and placement consultants and convince the institutes with the false promise of providing students for admission in their colleges.

The gang would then submit forged documents to the institutes and on the pretext of travelling and other logistic requirements had extracted huge amount of money from various institutes across the country.

The case came to light when the matter was reported to the PHQ by the Chairman of the NBSE. It was alleged that mark sheets and other educational certificates which were sent to NBSE for verification by various technical institutes from Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka were found to be fake.

The accused are currently in the police custody and further investigation is on to unveil other accomplices involved in the case, police stated. The public have been advised to be wary of such scams as “criminals are taking advantage of the prevailing pandemic for commission of similar online frauds.”
