Nagaland to deploy 500 business correspondents by 2025

Correspondent KOHIMA, October 1 (NPN) : As India intends to induct 50,000 business correspondents (BCs) in all gram panchayats (GP) under “Mission One BC One GP”, Nagaland will deploy 500 BCs by 2025.

Rural Development joint secretary and Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) mission director Imtimenla said this during a programme organised by NSRLM at RD Conference Hall here Thursday as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ programme held to mark 75 years of India’s Independence.

She said the main objective of the State-level celebration programme was to handover Indian Institute of Banking and Finance’s (IIBF) digital certificates to BCs, also known as Digipay Sakhi. She said 59 women SHG members who passed IIBF certification course in March 2021 were handed over digital IIBF certificates at the programme.

Imtimenla said 92 women SHG members had undergone training at Peren Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETIs) and had appeared for IIBF certification examination, out of which 59 passed in March 2021. They also received biometric fingerprint devices and have started doing transactions in villages, she added.

Special guest Abeinuo Jasmine, EAC (Estt), Kohima district, appreciated the rural development department, especially NSRLM, for giving impetus to the much-needed initiative. She also lauded banking institutions and all stakeholders for giving their best in the initiative and remarked that with the intervention of banks, a dream of having a financially literate population of the country and State was now turning into a reality.

Resource persons who took part in the programme included– Novin Basumatary director RSETI Peren, Lanusosang Jamir state head common service centre, Besü Bosco Sani, AGM SBI Kohima main branch, and Poji district development manager NABARD, Kohima spoke on the occassion .

The programme was chaired by State Program Manager (FI), SMMU Rajuselie Lhousa while vote of thanks was delivered by assistant district program manager, DMMU Kohima Vitsizo Semu.
