The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today staged a sit-in-protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the vandalization of its office in the Naga Club Building Kohima on May 27.

NSF President, Kegwayhun Tep told the concerned authority and government of the day that “If justice is not delivered to the students’ community, we are ever ready to intensify our movement. We want to ensure that justice is delivered.”

He said that the NSF is supposed to call for a people’s movement in order to ensure that justice is delivered; “but as an intellectual and mature organization, we feel that we should not disturb the public conveniences, for which, we are here in the form of sit-in-protest democratically, expressing our sentiments and demanding our rights.”

“Naga Students’ Federation is not here to claim this property. We are only here to protect the heritage- the house of the Naga people,” he said.

MLA Achumbemo Kikon and former president of NSF extended solidarity and encouraged the NSF to keep fighting for their rights and ensure that “justice is done according to the law prevailing in our land.”

Kikon demanded that the culprits involved in demolition of the NSF office be arrested immediately and dealt with firmly according to the law of the land.

“This is very unbecoming of those who have perpetrated this kind of action,” he said. Even if there are issues there are ways to settle the issue but not in this manner, he stated, adding that “in civilized society like ours, we don’t settle issues in this form.”

“How can our citizens live in this kind of city when your house are vandalized/demolished without going through the due process of law?” Kikon questioned.

Sit in- protest to continue
The NSF informed that the sit-in-protest will continue on May 30 from 9:00 AM onwards.

Meanwhile, the federation has called an emergency NSF Seniors’ Consultative Meeting on May 30 at 11:00 AM at Angami Public Organization (APO) Conference Hall, Kohima to discuss the Naga Club building issue.

It requested all senior leaders of the federation to be a part of the meeting and “present their thoughts in the interest of the federation in particular and for the welfare of the Naga people at large.”
