Close on the heels of the eviction drive at Balijan near Nagaland-Assam border area on Sunday, a joint delegation of the Naga Students Federation (NSF) and Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) met the Karbi Students Association (KSA) and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member at the latter’s official residence in Diphu on Monday.

Informing this in a video statement, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep said the NSF and DNSU delegation held a spot verification at Balijan ‘C’ Khel on January 31 after which they held a meeting with the KSA and CEM and submitted a two-point charter of demands.

According to Tep the demands include– compensating the affected families and to allow them to resettle in their rightful place without any further disturbances.

They also appealed KAAC that Nagas living in the border areas, within the jurisdiction, were not threatened and that their means of livelihood be restored.

Though it was not a fruitful meeting, Tep said that the chief executive member had assured them that the eviction would be kept on hold for some time.

Further, NSF and DNSU vehemently condemned the incident during the eviction drive by the KAAC during which two churches and 23 households were destroyed leaving many families homeless.

Tep said that they came to learn about this when NSF and DNSU delegation held a spot verification soon after the eviction drive on Sunday.

NSF and DNSU appealed to the churches, particularly Dimapur-based churches, to come forward and provide relief to the affected families. They also appealed to the Nagas to maintain peace and tranquillity, particularly those living in the border areas.
