Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN) : Police resorted to lathicharge against students who were protesting against the Nagaland University (NU) offline undergraduate odd semester examinations 2021, drawing criticism from different quarters. Students from various colleges in Dimapur staged protest for the second against the offline exam at DC court junction area here on Friday.

As the students in uniform registered their protest, police made several appeals to cooperate and disperse since they were not given the permission to hold protest rally. However, as students continued to protest, the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters.

National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland unit strongly condemned what it described as “brutal and dastardly attack” by the police on the unarmed students, who were peacefully protesting outside the DC office.

NPCC general secretary GK Zhimomi said the students’ “demands may or may not be justified, but authorities must reason out with our students rather than let loose the might of the state.”

Dimapur Naga Students Union representatives, who were also seen trying to negotiate with the protesting students, urged them to select representatives so as to hold talks and submit their charter of demands to the authorities. Later, after the intervention from the officials of All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU), the student protesters were pacified at around 2 p.m.
