RE-IMAGINING EDUCATION: Chizami Students’ Union holds 77th general session

Kohima, December 28 (MExN): The 77th General Session of Chizami Students’ Union (CSU) was held under the theme ‘Re-imagining Education’ on December 22 last at Chizami village in Phek district.

In presidential address, CSU President Khrolhiwe-u Tsuhah reflected on her two-year tenure, acknowledging the challenges and the inspirational journey it had been.

She congratulated achievers across various fields and stressed the need for constructive dialogues and collective action to address students’ well-being. She highlighted CSU’s major initiatives, including the Ecosystem Restoration Initiative, initiation of Chizami Library cum Union Building construction, Review of CSU Constitution, environmental initiatives like Clean Chizami competition 2022 marking the Chizami Year of Sanitation 2023, Himalayan Clean Up, and educational projects like Mapumo Seta and Inter-unit Literary Competition towards achieving quality education, leadership development, climate action and promoting culture.

Wulo Akami, an entrepreneur, shared insights from his journey and the inspiration behind ‘Wulo Akami Artworks,’ celebrating Naga culture.

Medovi Rhi, President of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), commended CSU’s role in NSF and stressed the importance of self-reliance and transformative education. He said that students have the power to shape communities and everyone must play a pivotal role.

Vekhosu Nyekha, Social & Cultural Secretary of Chakhesang Students Union also applauded CSU’s initiatives and encouraged the students to explore beyond bookish knowledge and government jobs to achieve their goals.

Kezunyipeu Lasuh, Deputy Development Commissioner of the Planning & Transformation Department, Nagaland, highlighted the importance of discipline, respecting elders and informal education. She emphasised the need to avoid relying solely on teachers and parents for personal growth and encouraged independence.

Lasuh also stressed the significance of language preservation, the value of assisting one another, and the blessings that come from mutual support as we Re-imagine Education.

On the issue of unemployment, she urged the individuals to leverage their skills wisely and avoid idleness.

Meanwhile, the new team of CSU has also been announced for the tenure 2024-25 with Rukewete K Edemi as president.

The Cultural Session, themed “Bringing Indigenous Culture and Education,” featured competitions in Oral Folktale ‘Edimi Se’ and Indigenous Folk Dance among six Khels at Chizami.

Tshelhiu, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Mon, stressed the revival of traditions like weaving and addressed the impact of technology on mental health. She said that students, elders and communities have a pivotal role to preserve our culture, identity, heritage and foster relationships which requires combined effort of all.

Khelo Lohe, pastor CBC and Rev Mese Rhakho, eldest living president of CSU prayed for the session.
