Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 28 (NPN) : State chief minister Neiphiu Rio handed out 47 Casio Laser LED Hybrid projectors to music institutes empanelled with Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), TaFMA district partners and selected community-based NGOs at State Banquet Hall here on Monday.

The project was an initiative of Casio India as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative “Gyan Ki Roshni or Light of Knowledge”. Addressing the programme, Rio acknowledged TaFMA for its relentless pursuit of music even during the time of pandemic and appreciated the music institutions for imparting training at the grassroots level to inspire the State with music.

“The music industry is not only for leisure or for singing in some functions but it is a huge business which needs to excel,” Rio said.

To encourage artistes and youth in creative pursuits like fashion, dance, crafts, literature and fine arts, he said the erstwhile Music Task Force was rebranded as TaFMA in 2019.

Since then, he observed that TaFMA had made considerable progress as far as music and arts were concerned, while appreciating the task force for building networks and partnership across the country and abroad through partnerships in countries like Libya, Russia, USA, etc, besides signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MusiConnect Asia.

He also mentioned about TaFMA’s preparations to organise Asia Music Summit by end of 2021 or early part of 2022.

Recalling the visit of music maestro AR Rahman during the Hornbill festival in 2019, which was followed by his signing of MoU with State government to create Sunshine Orchestra Nagaland Chapter under the aegis of AR Rahman Foundation, Rio said he was thrilled to see some of the performances by children from the foundation.

As the State government had declared music as an industry, he said it was the government’s responsibility to nurture children in the music industry as music was not just for leisure, but had a huge business potential.

The chief minister hoped that the recipients would use the projectors for good purpose, make children professional and continue promoting and empowering the youth at the grassroots level.

He assured to fully support the youth, particularly the musicians, by guiding them and help them excel and make the State proud.

Meanwhile, referring to a report published in the Nagaland Pot “India is now in endemic stage…”, Rio hoped that the State government would be able to host the 2021 edition of Hornbill festival, and urged everyone to work hard from the grassroots level.
