DIMAPUR, AUG 1 (NPN): Incidence of Coronavirus continued unabated as Nagaland on Saturday recorded the biggest single-day spike of 130 COVID-19 cases. The overall tally also crossed the 1800-mark (1831 cases– 1183 active, 640 recovered, 2 migrated and 6 deaths).
In a tweet, Health minister S. Pangnyu Phom said that out 552 samples tested for COVID-19, 130 came out positive. He said 109 cases were detected from Dimapur and 21 from Kohima.
As per the severity of symptoms, 1,181 active cases were asymptomatic, 1 mild and 1 admitted to ICU on oxygen and 6 deaths– 4 due to COVID, 1 death (positive) but not due to COVID and 1 death under investigation (co-morbidities and positive case).
Meanwhile, active surveillance and contact tracing have been activated to prevent further spreading of the infection.
According to state Health department data (positive cases by domicile district), Dimapur recorded the highest number of cases at 719, followed Kohima- 423, Peren-331, Mon- 173, Tuensang- 51, Phek- 29, Mokokchung and Wokha- 18 each, Zunheboto- 14, Longleng- 5, Kiphire-4 and others- 46.
The recovery rate among the COVID-19 patients in Nagaland is 34.83 per cent.
Till August 1, a total of 24,917 samples were sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 22,436 samples received. Out of 16,307 samples received at BSL-3 lab (NHAK), 15,137 were tested out of which 1,264 tested positive.

DIMAPUR, AUG 1 (NPN): Another suspected COVID-related death was reported in Dimapur’s Kevijau Colony on Saturday.
According to official sources, the deceased, reported to be 75 years had earlier been admitted to a hospital for some ailment. He was discharged from the hospital on July 25 and died in the morning of August 1.
On being informed of the death, a medical team collected swab samples for testing through TrueNat and the result confirmed positive for COVID-19. However, another test for COVID-19 will be done through RT-PCR at the BSL lab and result was awaited.
With this, the number of deaths (all from Dimapur) rose to 10.
As per the Health department data out of five deaths (all COVID positive), four died due to COVID– two at Dimapur District Hospital; one at Nikos Hospital; one at Medzhiphema CHC. A woman (from Assam) who died and tested positive for COVID at a paid quarantine centre in Dimapur, was not due to COVID, it added.
On July 25, an employee of a gas agency died due to health issues and tested positive for COVID through TrueNat.
On July 29, a woman around 45 years old from Aoyimti village had tested positive for COVID-19 through TrueNat after her death. She was also suffering from health issues.
On July 30, another woman (around 45 years) from West Yard colony died after suffering from health issues. The initial test through TrueNat was positive and RT-PCR confirmation test report also returned positive.
A resident of Duncan Basti (male around 40 years) died on July 31. Sources said that the person had been suffering from other ailments. The TrueNat test report was positive and RT-PCR confirmation report awaited. It was learnt that the deceased was buried on August 1 at the new Naga cemetery at Zani village area.
