Utilise funds transparently and judiciously: RD Director urges VDBs

Dimapur, November 28 (MExN): Director for Rural Development, Nagaland, Liboni Humtsoe has urged village functionaries, especially the Village Development Board (VDBs), to transparently and judiciously utilise funds and implement schemes as per specifications and guidelines.

Stating this while inaugurating an Amphitheatre at Phiro village under Wozhuro Block of DRDA, Wokha on November 26, the Director highlighted many project and schemes provided by the government to develop the area and also appealed to the village community to extend co-operation to the village functionaries and implementing agencies so that schemes and projects are appropriately implemented.

She also emphasised on the importance of sincerity and dedication in order to achieve the many programmes and policies of the government. Similarly, she said unity is most important in order for development to be achieved.

According to a DIPR report, Humtsoe said that the amphitheatre at Phiro village is the first-of-its-kind in Wokha district. It was constructed under the 15 Finance Commission (untied) 2022-23.

She also said that the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) has now been revamped and the Government of India, with the objective to give recognition to the VDBs, has introduced National Panchayat Awards (NPA). The NPA would go to the best performing VBDs, based on nine categories namely poverty free & enhanced livelihood, healthy village, child friendly village, water sufficient village, clean & green village, self sufficient infrastructure, socially secured village with good governance and women friendly village.

The Director expressed gratitude to the Wokha District Village Development Board Association (WDVDBA) for their effort in successfully implementing the project and also thanked the land owner for generously and willing donating the land to construct the amphitheatre.

Meanwhile, President WDVDBA Mhondamo Shitiri, on behalf of Phiro village and the association, thanked the Department and the land donors. Short speeches were also delivered by Project Director, DRDA Wokha P Koza; General Secretary Nagaland State Village Development Board Association (NSVDBA) Manthungo Kikon; Vice-President NSVDBA Dr Imli, Chairperson of Phiro Village Council and representatives from the land donor/owner families.
